About Pedana
Pedana is a town in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, in the Krishna district. It falls under the Pedana mandal, one of the 50 mandals in the district. It is the headquarters for the Machilipatnam revenue division. Its located at 16.2667°N 81.1667°E. It’s average elevation is up to 3 feet. The Pedana town is governed by their own municipality, which formed in the year 1985. It is regarded as a grade – 3 municipality with 23 wards. The main occupation is handloom weaving that consists primarily of the art of Kalamkari. In Pedana they follow the Machilipatnam style of kalamkari, which involves block painting of dyed vegetables on a fabric. They also use a technique involving of painting natural dyes onto cotton with the help of a bamboo pen.How to reach Pedana
By Road – The best way possible to reach the town by road would be to take a bus to the Machilipatnam bus stop and thereafter, take a bus to Pedana bus stop to cover the 8km distance. The bus stop is located on the NH216 which approximately a 1.2 km away from the town. The municipality offers various bus services which would connect some of the major cities to Pedana.By Rail – Pedana is well connected to various cities in the country by a number of trains taking you to Pedana railway station (PAV). Although, the best option would be to take a train to the major railway station of Vijaywada and then take a 2hour train to cover the 64 km distance to Pedana. Trains are available at regular intervals from Vijaywada to Pedana.
By Air – The Pedana town does not have an airport. Whereas a nearby town, Vijaywada, has an airport which is well connected to major cities in the country. The distance from Vijayawada to Pedana is also not a major problem as these two towns are well connected with trains and buses at regular intervals.
